ABOUT

Zan Emerson is a New York-based artist and craftsman who graduated with a degree in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from Skidmore College in 2007. 

Following graduation, they worked in the NYC live music industry for 15 years across marketing, branding, and operations for some of the most notable club-level performances of the period in both the popular and experimental realms. During this time, they self-taught as a graphic designer, gaining recognition as Village Voice’s “Best Concert Poster Designer” of 2015.

In 2022, they returned to metalsmithing and subsequently left the music industry in 2023. They now dedicate much of their time to advancing their artistic practice along with working as a support person for their sister.

Since 2025, Zan has served as the Newsletter Editor and a Governance Committee member for the Society of Inclusive Blacksmiths, a nonprofit group that supports historically underrepresented populations in the field of blacksmithing through grants, scholarships, mentorship, and community.
